A Welcoming Home for Former Roman Catholics
A fact of life is that many former Roman Catholics now identify themselves as “non-practicing.” Scores have left because they disagree with the official teachings of the institutional church, are troubled by an unrelenting worldwide sex abuse scandal, or have been rejected by the Church. Whether because of divorce and remarriage, reproductive choice, being gay or lesbian, the role of women, or a host of other issues, legions have experienced unrelenting judgment by the Roman Church. These rejections are often most acutely felt at times of sickness and death, whether personally or of a loved one.
It is at these tender moments when we would hope that compassion and care would be most available. Tragically, this is often not the case for so many. However, there is a viable alternative in the American National Catholic Church. And one that is open, available and accepting. Built on the command of Christ to “love one another, as I have loved you,” we welcome all regardless of gender, marital status, or sexual orientation. We inherit and continue a rich tradition of grace-filled sacraments and a lived commitment to social action.
The American National Catholic Church is part of a rich Independent Catholic tradition finding its origins in the 1800s that extends far beyond the walls of the Vatican. We are the fastest-growing variety of Catholicism in the West. We are found in nearly every city of every state in the U.S. and Mexico, every Province of Canada, and throughout the Philippines, Australia, Europe and South America.
Our validly-ordained priests are available for pastoral visits, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and the Anointing of the Sick. For those who are experiencing the death of a loved one or friend, we are able to officiate at Catholic wake services, conduct services at funeral homes, and celebrate the funeral Mass of Christian Burial.
